There's just one problem: your bicycle needs to get on a plane, and airlines don't accept bikes the way they came in. They need to be disassembled, padded, and packed into a proper cardboard box before they'll touch them at the oversize baggage counter.
That's where Fat Saddle comes in.
We provide bicycle boxing services and airport transfers in Sarajevo - everything you need to turn a packed touring bike into checked luggage, and get you and your box to Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) in time for your flight home to Germany, Austria, the UK, France, or wherever the next adventure begins.
What is the Ride In, Fly Home service?
The Bike & Fly route through the Western Balkans is one of Europe's most rewarding long-distance cycling experiences.
Riders typically fly into a starting city - Ljubljana (Slovenia), Zagreb (Croatia), Split, Dubrovnik, or Trieste - and pedal south through Bosnia and Herzegovina to Sarajevo, from where they fly home.
It's a perfect point-to-point adventure. Except for the last-mile logistics: once you arrive in Sarajevo, you need to:
- Find a large enough cardboard bike box (not easy in an unfamiliar city)
- Get the tools to disassemble your bicycle
- Pack it properly so it survives the hold
- Transport a large, awkward box to the airport - without a car
